2022年新語予想！言葉の変化を楽しむ
毎年話題になるユーキャンの新語•流行語大賞。2021年の大賞は「リアル二刀流／ショータイム」でした。エンゼルスの大谷選手が大活躍した一年でしたので、納得の結果と言えるでしょう。

『JR上野駅公園口』（柳美里著、2014年）を読んでみた。この本に興味を持ったきっかけは、2020年にアメリカで英訳本（‟Tokyo Ueno Station”）がNational Book Award for Translated Literatureを受賞したからである。

今年11月、カタールで中東初のワールドカップが開催されますが、前回2018年のロシア大会において、出場32か国中最も話されていた言語はスペイン語で8か国、次がアラビア語とフランス語で4か国、ドイツ語と英語で3か国と続き、ここでようやく今回ご紹介するポルトガル語（ブラジルとポルトガルの2か国）が登場します。

Although they were eventually forced to be held without overseas spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic, the leadup to the Games involved extensive preparations to accommodate foreign travelers, and a major aspect of this was updated English signage in train stations and other public facilities.
